The Best 5 Books I've Ever Read - A List
I often get asked what my favorite books are. Well, here you go!
“Why Not Me? by Jarrylew” is an e-commerce and investment newsletter that focuses around the idea of using efficient income to become self-employed and financially free.
Nothing like this exists on the internet and you’re guaranteed to learn something new by subscribing.
This is a free post, but if you would like to support my work and follow along with my personal projects/investments, I’d be thrilled to have you as a subscriber.
I can’t tell you how many times people have asked me for book recommendations over the past two years.
This is being written so that I can link this post every time I am asked in the future.
I will likely add more books to it in the future, so feel free to check back later down the line.
If you aren’t a person that likes to read physical books, consider getting audible and listening to them like a podcast.
I go back and forth between reading and listening to books, depending on how I feel.
These 5 books aren’t the only books I’ve read… I’ve read a ton. These are just my top 5 at this point in time.
Enough rambling, here is my list.
Book #1 - Outwitting the Devil
I don’t think it’s possible to overstate how incredible this book really is. The story about how it was created is awesome too.
It was written over eighty years ago but was held from publication for decades because the author’s family thought it would create actual chaos.
Some of the predictions and assertions are mind-blowing and leave you wondering how someone even knew all of this so long ago.
It will change the way you think for the rest of your life.

Book #2 - The Richest Man in Babylon
This is a book that is even older, nearing 100 years old.
It is one of the best books of all time when it comes to how money works and it left me feeling pissed off that this wasn’t a mandatory read in high school.
I do find some of the advice a bit dated but it’s still fantastic for those who still don’t quite have a full grasp on their financial education.
I recommend listening to this one as it is written in older English, which can get kind of distracting.

Book #3 - Rich Dad Poor Dad
People give this book a hard time because apparently the “Rich Dad” in this story isn’t one single person.
Instead, it is a culmination of advice the author received as a child and young adult.
To me, all of that is irrelevant because the book itself has fantastic advice and principles on how to build wealth.
People who try to go above and beyond to say, “wElL aCtUaLlY, tHiS gUy iS a sCaM” just want to find any reason to remain stagnant (you’ll find a few in the reviews).
Avoid people like that at all costs.
The most beneficial part of the book is the explanation of an Assets vs. Liabilities table and how they differ between a wealthy person and a poor person.
You will find some similar information to Book #2 in this one, but Rich Dad Poor Dad takes it a step further.
Despite being 25 years old, it is still very accurate today.

Book #4 - Unscripted
This is the sequel to Book #5 but I found it even better so that’s why it is higher on the list.
If you are going to read this one, read Book #5 first.
It does a great job of hammering home just how special entrepreneurship really is.
My favorite part is how entertaining it is due to the continuous use of analogies that leave you feeling like you truly understand what the author is saying.
Some entrepreneurship books leave you wondering, “WTF does that even mean?” but this one won’t.
If you are like me and hate the idea of working a 9-5 job, you will love this book.

Book #5 - The Millionaire Fastlane
Despite being over 10 years old now, this book is pretty much timeless.
I am not the type of person that ever cared about becoming a “millionaire”, but that isn’t explicitly what the book is about.
It just happens to use that word in the title.
I find that it does a great job of explaining why working a 9-5 job is the most inefficient way to become financially free.
This will really get you in the right mindset to build your dream life.

If you read all five of these books here is what will likely happen:
Your viewpoint will change in a few different areas of life.
If you read all five of these books here is what won’t happen:
You will all the sudden make a ton of money overnight.
I don’t know what it is about books, but people act like they are the reason people succeed or fail.
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Books are a great way to learn about how systems work and how to approach different situations.
They are not a replacement for trying new things, making mistakes, failing, and doing the actual work required to build something worthwhile.
Above all else, you must do the work.
Reading these books will just have you feeling a little more confident during that process that you are on the right path.
Hope this list helps. Enjoy!
