If you have read the Substack for some time, you’ll know I like to talk about a specific type of online business.
That business? Book flipping.
Why?
Well, it’s just about the most efficient and beginner friendly side hustle on earth.
I’ve built and sold several e-commerce businesses over the years, but every single one of them was not beginner friendly.
They required buying stock in bulk, paying for advertising, and hoping that the traffic resulted in profitable sales.
I’m not saying those businesses aren’t worth building, but I recommend beginners to avoid them until they have gained some experience.
If you listen to this advice alone, I’ll have saved you thousands of dollars at minimum.
Flipping books online doesn’t require paying for ads, buying in bulk, nor do you have to worry if the book will sell.
The customers are already waiting on Amazon and as long as you do your research ahead of time, it’s almost a guarantee that every book you buy will sell.
I’ve run this business for about eight years now and it’s as healthy as it’s ever been.
Here are four recent examples of books that I bought and sold profitably.
Book #1
A few weeks back I got this book on eBay for $40. After shipping, it was $55 total.
I was able to sell it earlier this week for $150 on Amazon.
This is a fantastic ROI of almost 120% and above my average which sits around 80%.
As far as e-commerce standards go, that is extremely good.
Cost Basis: $55.00
Sale Price: $149.95
Fees: $29.97
Profit After Fees: $64.98
ROI: 118%
Book #2
Every time I make one of these posts, I like to include a more “realistic” flip so that people don’t get down on themselves when they don’t hit crazy ROI numbers.
This book returned less than 50% ROI, which is the threshold I like to clear on every sale if possible.
I bought it for $77 on Amazon and sold it for $140 back on Amazon.
How is that possible? We bought at a good price and listed with a way faster shipping method. That’s how.
However, profit was made and that’s all that really matters.
Cost Basis: $76.90
Sale Price: $139.95
Fees: $28.47
Profit After Fees: $34.58
ROI: 45%
Book #3
This book was an instant sale. The moment it stocked at Amazon it was gone, which is always a nice surprise.
I got it for $50 and sold it for $110. This was a textbook book flip.
Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
Average time of sale for me is usually a couple of weeks, for reference.
Cost Basis: $50.34
Sale Price: $109.95
Fees: $23.24
Profit After Fees: $36.37
ROI: 72%
Book #4
This book will look familiar if you have my book flipping guide.
I use one that is extremely similar as an example in my presentation, but it’s not the same as this one.
Usually, I don’t go for books that are ranked as poor on Amazon as this one is.
However, there are some books that sell just as well because there are so few sellers on the listing.
This is one of those.
So much so, that I bought five of them for $100 and sold them for a little over $200 each.
Cost Basis: $100.00 each
Sale Price: $212.86 each
Fees: $39.41 each
Profit After Fees: $73.45 each
Total Profit: $367.25
ROI: 73%
Conclusion
Revenue: $1,464.15
Cost Basis: $682.24
Total Fees: $332.64
Profit After Fees: $503.18
ROI: 74%
I say this every single time… but I can’t help myself.
What other side hustle on earth will bring you $500 profit after buying and selling 8 total products?
What other side hustle is as straight forward for beginners?
What other side hustle allows you to make that $500 after working for only a couple of hours?
It doesn’t exist, trust me.

Hello Ser,
Thanks for sharing the leads. On the first one I see only used available, and the history shows very low sales price for used. Also the rank on the first book is very high, what made you overcome your warning on staying below 300,000-500,0000 sales ranking?
