TIE #046: How This Newsletter Got 1,555,621 Views and Made $57,281 in 2023
It's time to start documenting the performance of my writing business.
Apparently you hate money. If you didn’t, you’d be using Rakuten every time you shop on websites like Walmart and Target to save money.
They have paid me over $13,400 for things I was already going to buy for my one-person business:
They are also the reason this post is free to read. Sign up here and get $30 for free after your first use.
After documenting my Amazon business for 3 straight years inside this newsletter, I have made the executive decision to begin documenting the performance of the newsletter itself.
(I also plan to begin documenting how much money I make with Rakuten, which is then cashed out with American Express reward points and sent to a Charles Schwab brokerage account, stay tuned for that)
Let’s dive straight into it.
To give some context, The Introvert Entrepreneur had just over 416,000 views during the entirety of 2022:
For whatever reason, views exploded in Q4.
Fast forward to 2023 and the total amount of eyeballs on the newsletter more than tripled, reaching over 1.5 million views:
Once again, we saw an explosion in views during Q4.
Here are the traffic sources:
I’ve never had a structure or dedicated strategy for sharing the newsletter.
All I do is write/talk about my businesses or lifestyle and then plug it when relevant (while also having it linked on my profiles).
Twitter by far has been the best resource for generating free and paid subscribers.
No other platform comes close.
The most important takeaway I want to highlight is this:
My goal when starting this newsletter was to create the newsletter I wished someone else would write
If you can think of one YOU wish existed, I urge you to begin writing it.
You do not have to be a good writer and I am proof of that.
With that, I’ll document one last thing.
The newsletter made $57,281.79 in 2023 from paid subscriptions:
I have no issues sharing this because if used properly, a paid subscription is worth thousands of dollars at minimum (as long as you take action).
I also share this because seeing someone who isn’t good at writing generate over $50,000 with a newsletter would have inspired me when I was starting out.
I could have used that kind of money as a broke college student doing anything I could to avoid a loan for tuition.
If I was starting over today, I would write and document every step I took.
However, you can’t do that unless you:
Start a business
Refuse to give up
That choice is yours and I can’t make it for you.
When you are ready, there are 2 ways I can help you:
